The Fall

You caused me to plummet into the sea
Flailing, fluffy sparrow fledgling falling
but frothing seafoam horses set me free
I learned the depths’ secrets; shark trawling
Embers of fire parting each wave I crest
I am the adder, hiding patiently

to slither from stone and tear out your chest
or rather, what’s left: a cavity
Where most feel the wings of a butterfly
You know only the hollow, the shadow
Mary before the cross; you wail and cry
You tiptoe on poisoned feet that follow

spirals into the darkest of the deeps
where I am waiting; your soul mine to keep
